3 v 3 Tournament - Call
for Registrations
– The Rotary Club of Windsor (1918) is pleased to present its second annual
World Soccer Day – a 3 versus 3 soccer tournament to be held on Sunday, June 9, 2013 at the Vollmer Complex in LaSalle. All funds raised
will be used to help build a school in Ghana.
This fun-filled tournament will
appeal to a wide range of age groups and skill levels, with divisions for boys
and girls in age groups U5, U7, U9, U11, U13, U15 and U17 as well as a division
for Men and Women and Co-ed teams. While only 3 from a
team will play at one time, it is recommended that each team have 6 players to
allow for substitution as each team is guaranteed to play a minimum of three 25
minute games.
“We are so excited to build on last
year’s success,” says Rotarian Neil McTavish, committee chair. “Participants
are asked to bring in pledges of a minimum of $25 per player and all funds
raised will support a project of the Rotary Club of Windsor (1918) to build a
school in Upper West Ghana, Africa.”
Dr. Godfrey Bacheyie, local Neonatalist
renowned for his dedicated humanitarian efforts in his homeland of Ghana, will
make a special presentation at the Opening Ceremonies, describing how a new
school will make a tremendous difference in the lives of hundreds of children.
“What makes this tournament so
unique is that it will be global in nature,” McTavish continues. Similar soccer
events will be held in Brazil and Ghana and we hope someday that this World
Soccer Day tournament will become a signature fundraising event for many Rotary
clubs around the world.”
Teams can register online at www.worldsoccerday.com or by calling Neil McTavish at
519-791-7263. Registration deadline is
June 4 and spaces are limited. Teams
will be accepted on a first come, first served basis.
