Serbian Flood Relief Event June 20, 2014

Balkan Sear-Kuss Village Concert Serbian Flood Relief Event June 20,2014 at 7pm

Plan to attend the first ever "Balkan Sear-Kuss Village Concert" featuring the Lemon Bucket Orkestra and Lika Orkestra. Simply put, these groups are a mix of Balkan-Klezmer-Gypsy-Party-Punk-Super Mix of Balkan music smacked with the fun and frolic of Balkan Culture!

From Toronto to New York, Budapest to Berlin, audiences around the world are hailing the Lemon Bucket Orkestra as folk music revolutionaries. This 15 piece guerrilla force has an army of followers and fans both at home and abroad.

Those discovering the band for the first time quickly realize that their shows are more than concerts; they’re wild, joyful experiences rarely contained for walls; they’re celebrations of tradition and culture expressed with an explosive punk spirit; they’re ecstatic street parades that erupt from the collision of nostalgia and imagination.

The Lemon Bucket Orkestra made headlines (such as CNN, CBC, Fox News and CTV), on their way to Romania for a three-week tour, when they played an impromptu concert on a delayed Air Canada flight. In September 2013, the band was nominated in four categories at the Canadian Folk Music Awards. In February 2014, Lemon Bucket Release of Lume, Lume was nominated for a Juno Award in the category of "Best World Music Album" In March 2014, the band was nominated for an Indie Award by Indie88 for "World Artist/Group or Duo of the Year".

This will be the first appearance for the Lemon Buckets in the Windsor Essex Area. A FREE Dance Workshop will be provided by the Lemon Buckets at the Serbian Village Gracanica Carrousel of Nations in Kosovo Hall at the Serbian Centre 6770 Tecumseh Rd E, Windsor, Friday June 20th 9:15pm

Portions of proceeds will be directed to the Aid For Families affected by the Flood in Serbia and Republic of Serbia. All donations will go directly to the bank accounts set up by the governments of Serbia and Republika Srpska. Also appearing - Lika Orkestra, an acoustic Serbian TamburaĊĦi band from Toronto, formed in 1967 in Toronto with founding members Milan Sanader, and John and Michael Lukich. The name originated from the fact that their fathers were Serbs from LIKA. They are well seasoned Balkan vets specializing in weddings, parties, and ‘bar band’ situations.

Traditional Food and Drinks will be available for purchase at the event. Limited tickets available. Buy Now at www.aidforserbiawindsor.com $17 Advance $20 At the Door

World Soccer Day June 22, 2014

Calling all Soccer Coaches!

Register your team for

World Soccer Day

3 v 3 Soccer Festival

Sunday, June 22, 2014 – Fogolar Furlan

(Windsor, Ontario) -  The Rotary Club of Windsor (1918) will be hosting its third annual World Soccer Day  - 3 v 3 Soccer Festival - on Sunday, June 22 at the Fogolar Furlan.

This fun-filled Soccer Festival will appeal to a wide range of age groups and skill levels, with divisions for boys and girls in age groups starting at U5 and ranging up to 55+ for Men and Women and Co-ed teams.    While only 3 from a team will play at one time, it is recommended that each team have 6 players to allow for substitution as each team is guaranteed to play a minimum of three 25 minute games.

“While our ultimate goal is to have this Soccer Festival become a signature fundraising event for Rotary Clubs around the world, this year our target is to attract 100 teams from Southwestern Ontario,” says Rotarian Neil McTavish, committee chair. “The minimum entry fee of $125 per team will support a project of the Rotary Club of Windsor (1918) to build a school in Upper West Ghana, Africa.”

Teams can register online at www.worldsoccerday.com or by calling Neil McTavish at 519-791-7263.  Registration deadline is June 17 and spaces are limited.  Teams will be accepted on a first come, first served basis.

June 7, 2014 Mighty Machines at WFCU Centre Parking Lot

Mighty Machines Invade the WFCU Centre Parking Lot

It’s a family oriented event that has become a tradition in Windsor.  The fourth annual Meet A Machine event will roll into the WFCU centre parking lot giving children a chance to touch and climb on those mighty machines they would usually only see from a distance. The event takes place Saturday, June 7th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is free to the public.

Close to 50 vehicles will be on hand including buses, emergency response vehicles, garbage trucks, military vehicles, race cars and much more.  This event is a literacy based experience that provides children with an opportunity to learn about the machines by climbing into and exploring them.  The drivers who operate the vehicles will be on hand to talk to the children about the machines and answer any questions that they have.

Vehicles are a big part of children’s literature and this event is intended to help them make a connection between this experience and reading.  This free event is sponsored by the City of Windsor Ontario Early Years Program.  To see highlights from last year’s event, watch our video on YouTube, Mighty Machines Invade the WFCU Centre Parking Lot.
