The Canadian Cancer Society Youth Troop
boasts many visual as well as performance based artists. The traditional visual
art and photographs will be on display as well as musical groups playing
throughout the reception held on Friday, March 1st, 2013, which is
open to the public. Fifty percent of the proceeds will go directly to the local
Canadian Cancer Society, Windsor-Essex County Unit.
“The caliber of youth who become involved
with our Youth Troop is exemplary. These teens are devoted to fighting cancer,
through advocacy, volunteering, carrying out prevention and awareness campaigns
and now through fundraising and art. We are excited to be able to engage them
and the wider community to appreciate our young local artists and fight this
horrible disease,” states Volunteer Engagement Coordinator and Youth Troop
innovator, Christine Richer of the Canadian Cancer Society-Essex County Unit.
The Canadian Cancer Society’s Youth Troop
consists of youth leaders from various high schools throughout Windsor/Essex
County. The goal of the Youth Troop is to increase awareness about cancer
prevention and health promotion in our local high schools, while at the same
time, providing youth with the meaningful, flexible and fun volunteer
experiences they are looking for.
New members are always welcome at the CCS’s
Youth Troop. One of the great benefits of membership is the uniting of
community to fight this devastating disease and making a real difference in the
lives of people right here in Essex County, creating a world where no Canadian fears cancer.
