5th Annual Explore the Shore Weekend, July 26 & 27, 2014

The 5th annual Explore the Shore weekend  along the scenic and historic County Road 50, on the north shore of Lake Erie, in the Town of Essex, just south of Harrow.  Thirty-six businesses, recreational facilities and community groups are participating on the weekend of July 26 and 27 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.

Organizers are excited to have 4 new participants this year: Drexler Diving Systems sharing the history of shipwrecks that lie just off our shore, The Garden Gallery with artists and musicians demonstrating their skill and talents on site, J.L. Frost Photography giving tours of the darkroom and Paglione Estate Winery with a Bocci Ball Tournament.

All of the participants have planned a full slate of activities and local products, including “great rate” golf, sailing, live entertainment, wine tastings, fresh produce, homemade pies, candles, church dinners, local root beer, fresh blueberries, vineyard and orchard tours, art, gift shops and florals. New activities this year are geo-caching along the route, a bicycle show and a Passenger Pigeon exhibit.  There will be food specials all along the route, including ice cream cones, wood-fired pizza, BBQs and picnic lunches.

The County Wide Active Transportation System (CWATS) will have a booth at Colchester Harbour Park and is sponsoring a draw for a new bike.

The 2014 theme is County Road 50, Always Changing, an invitation to learn the history of our community and people.  To aid the visitor, we will have a Scavenger Hunt based on this theme with information at each participating location.  Collect the answers and you will be eligible to enter a prize draw.

Enjoy the beaches, conservation areas, and especially the free Clubhouse Kidz Zone at the Colchester Beach and Harbour (with games, crafts, splash pad, treasure hunt, and more).

Bring a canned good for the Harrow Food Bank, and support our other charity events chosen by each participant.
