Windsor, ON- The fastest sport on skates is back for
its 2014 season and local athletes have the chance to participate. Red Bull
Crashed Ice is once again on a quest to find Canada’s most brazen winter
athletes; registration is now open for the local qualifying event at the WFCU
Centre. Fearless male and female athletes can register online at redbullcrashedice.com
until January 26, 2014 (at 11:59 p.m. EST) for the chance to participate in a
qualifier event at the WFCU Centre on Wednesday February 12. Only the
quickest and most agile skaters will advance to the international ice cross
downhill season finale against the iconic backdrop of Quebec City, QC on March
22, 2014.
Once registration
closes, a lottery will randomly select 200 men and 20 women from Windsor-Essex
to participate in a qualifying event at the WFCU Centre, which will consist of
speed trials on traditional ice-hockey surfaces. Athletes will skate two at a
time on identical obstacle courses in pursuit of the fastest course
completion time. Only the top 100 male and 24 female Qualifier participants
with the top overall skate scores will earn a spot to battle to the bottom of the massive ice course in
Quebec City’s season finale race.

About Red Bull Crashed Ice:
Ice cross downhill is renowned as the most unique and
challenging sport of its kind. A combination of hockey, boardercross, and
downhill skiing, Red Bull Crashed Ice sets a thrilling stage for intrepid male
and female amateur winter athletes. Athletes hurtle down an urban ice track
that weaves through city streets at speeds of over 60 km/hr.
Since the circuit’s kick-off in 2001, Red Bull Crashed
Ice has touched down in over 30 countries around the world, drawing more than
300,000 spectators last year alone. This year’s Quebec City season finale is in
its ninth year; the season finale is consistently renowned as the most iconic
stop of the circuit. This year’s Quebec City track will feature a completely
re-imagined and re-designed urban ice track in a location that it hasn’t landed
on since 2006.
