Will Rock Blue! is the latest blue-themed fundraiser
for Autism Ontario Windsor Essex. The inspirational music of Queen
will rock downtown Windsor’s Chrysler Theatre on May 23rd, 2014.
Did
you know that Autism now affects 1 in 94 children in Ontario? This pervasive
Developmental Disorder affects almost every aspect of a person’s life,
impacting behaviour, social interaction and communication skills. And the statistics
are rising at an alarming rate, affecting more and more families each
year.
Autism
Ontario helps improve the quality of life for persons with Autism and Pervasive
Developmental Disorders by working with them to ensure they live with dignity
in our community.
The
concert We Will Rock Blue! features North
America’s leading Queen tribute show, Simply
QUEEN. The event is produced by Magic Enterprises
Productions, a Windsor company with a 20+ year track record. This team
of professional entertainers and producers are benefit concert veterans,
with a recent show generating $17,000 for the Children’s Treatment Centre of Chatham-Kent.

The
Potential Program is designed to directly support families of children with
Autism Spectrum Disorder through the support of highly skilled clinical
professionals. This program also delivers topical workshops by experts in ASD,
topics are determined according to a demonstrated interest by families,
agencies and other professionals in the local community.

Ontario Windsor Essex strives to build community capacity by collaborating and
partnering with agencies. Autism
Ontario Windsor Essex is one of the largest chapters in Ontario.
Autism Ontario Windsor Essex Events
Autism
Ontario Windsor Essex holds fundraisers all year long such as the annual “Give
Your Heart to Autism” Gala, and “Oz for Autism’’ golf tournament which are two
of the largest.
The
funds raised during the year are used to provide money to families during the
summer months to be used for camps or one-to-one support workers.
Autism
Ontario Windsor Essex holds an annual summer picnic and holiday party which
over 600 families attend.

Ontario is a charitable organization that relies on donations to continue
delivering programs and services.

About Autism Spectrum Disorder
Autism
Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a complex developmental disability that typically
appears during the first three years of life: it is the result of a
neurological disorder that affects the functioning of the brain.
Autism
Spectrum Disorder is one of the most common developmental disabilities. Based
on recent studies by Canadian researchers, the prevalence rate of
Autism Spectrum Disorder is 1 in 94.
In
Ontario, there is an estimated 100,000 individuals with Autism Spectrum
Disorder. Yet most of the public, including many professionals in the medical,
educational, and vocational fields, are still unaware of how autism affects
people and how they can effectively work with individuals with autism.
Autism
impacts the typical development of the brain in the areas of social interaction
and communication skills. Children and adults with autism typically have
difficulties in verbal and non-verbal communication, social interactions, and
leisure or play activities. They find it hard to communicate with others and
relate to the outside world. In some cases, aggressive and/or self-injurious
behaviour may be present. Persons with autism may exhibit repeated body
movements (hand flapping, rocking), unusual responses to people or attachments
to objects and resistance to changes in routines. Individuals may also
experience sensitivities in sight, hearing, touch, smell, and taste.
